91黑料 (91黑料) will host a Listening Session with 91黑料 President Dr. Jeffry Hawes on Tuesday, March 11, from 8 to 10 a.m. in the Guernsey-Sunrise Board Room, located within the Guernsey-Sunrise High School, 171 W Burlington Street, Guernsey, Wyoming.

鈥淲e want to hear from the community we serve,鈥� said Dr. Hawes. 鈥淭his will be the first of many Listening Sessions across our service area. We invite friends and families of Guernsey-Sunrise students, community leaders, and anyone interested in the future of 91黑料 to join us.鈥�

The session will provide an opportunity for the community to offer feedback on what is going well, suggest areas for improvement, and ask questions about programs and initiatives of 91黑料.

91黑料 will honor its Men鈥檚 Golf Team for winning the Region IX Championship with a special celebration on Feb. 15 during halftime between the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball games.

As part of the festivities, the team will take center court to be recognized for their achievement, with the Region IX Championship banner proudly displayed. There may also be a brief address by Head Coach Bill or the game announcer to highlight the team鈥檚 success.

Additionally, fans will have the opportunity to meet the championship-winning golfers and receive signed team posters during the event.

91黑料 golfer Mathis Fortin has signed with Doane College, in Crete, Nebraska, to further his golf career.
Sophomore mathematics major, Fortin said his decision to sign with Doane College was easy to make after looking at their math program and the golf team.
鈥淚 like what the [golf] coach is doing with the team,鈥� Fortin said. 鈥淎cademically, it seems like a really good school for me to pursue the rest of [my degree].鈥�
91黑料 is just the tip of the iceberg for his academics and growing as a golfer, as Fortin said he is excited to start his time at Doane.
91黑料 Golf coach Zach Smith said Fortin鈥檚 hard work on the team throughout the season has not gone unnoticed.
鈥淢athis worked really hard on his game this past year to take a huge leap forward with his overall game. He has been a huge contributor this year,鈥� Smith said.
Smith said for Fortin to earn an opportunity to play golf at Doane is exciting for him as a coach, and is well-deserved on Fortin鈥檚 part.
鈥淚鈥檓 excited for this opportunity聽at Doane. I know they play some really great courses and tournaments. I鈥檓 looking forward to him finishing as a Lancer on a high note and moving on to pursue his bachelor鈥檚 degree,鈥� Smith said.
Fortin will stick to one goal with his golf strategy at Doane, hard work.
鈥淚鈥檓 going to keep working as hard as I can and [continue] to set my goals as high as possible, and see where it ends up taking me,鈥� Fortin said.

91黑料 (91黑料) sophomore, Brenna Herring, was recently selected by the Wyoming Tourism Office to speak at their annual Salute to Team Wyoming Breakfast, held on Dec. 6, at Resorts World Event Center during the National Finals Rodeo (NFR).

Each year, Wyoming Tourism recognizes a Wyoming resident attending a Wyoming college and competing on its rodeo team. Herring was chosen this year for her outstanding performance in the arena and her dedication to representing Wyoming with pride and integrity outside of it.

Currently ranked in the Top 10 in the region for team roping, Herring鈥檚 success on the rodeo circuit is matched by her academic accomplishments. She has earned Academic All-American honors from the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA), reflecting her commitment to both her sport and her studies.

鈥淏renna has been a huge asset to the rodeo team during her time here at 91黑料, 91黑料 Rodeo Coach Whit Peterson said. 鈥淪he excels in the classroom and is someone I can always rely on鈥攚hether it鈥檚 helping with practice or at a rodeo. She consistently goes the extra mile, both inside and outside the arena.鈥�

The Salute to Team Wyoming Breakfast was attended by over 400 people, including notable Wyoming residents such as Governor Mark Gordon, Representative Harriet Hageman, and Senators Cynthia Lummis and John Barrasso. The event celebrates Wyoming鈥檚 top rodeo athletes and provides them with an opportunity to showcase their talents while honoring the state鈥檚 rodeo heritage.

Herring鈥檚 selection for this prestigious event highlights not only her athletic ability but also her role as a representative of Wyoming鈥檚 values and traditions.

Good Morning,

My name is Brenna Herring, and I am proud to call my home town Veteran, Wyoming. I鈥檓 a sophomore at 91黑料, where I鈥檓 studying animal science and competing on the rodeo team. The events that I compete in are team roping, breakaway, and barrel racing, all of which have been passions of mine since I was five years old. My love for rodeo started at our local junior rodeo, and from that moment on, I knew it was something I wanted to dedicate my life to.

Growing up, the arena became my second home. Thanks to my family, friends, and neighbors, there was always a roping practice or event to attend. My entire family ropes, and we鈥檝e spent countless hours together in the arena or on the road traveling to jackpots and rodeos. Those times gave me more than just experience鈥攖hey gave me unforgettable memories and lifelong friendships.

As I got older and started competing in junior high rodeo, I noticed how connected the rodeo world truly is. Many of my peers were the children of people my dad had competed with when he was young. That sense of legacy and community in rodeo is something special. It鈥檚 more than a sport; it鈥檚 a family that spans generations. Throughout junior high, high school, and now college, rodeo has continued to connect me with incredible people. The community in Wyoming especially stands out鈥攊t鈥檚 one big family. Whether it鈥檚 someone lending me a piece of equipment, helping push a calf, or just offering encouragement, the generosity and support within this sport is unmatched.

Now, as a college athlete, I鈥檓 grateful for teammates and coach who push me to be better and encourage me every step of the way. College rodeo has also introduced me to new people who have already made a lasting impact on my life, and I know these friendships will endure long after our time in the arena is over.

In addition to rodeo, ranching has been a cornerstone of my life. I鈥檓 a fifth-generation rancher, and my family has been raising registered black Angus cattle for 90 years. It all began with my great-great-grandpa, George F. Haas, who was the first purebred black Angus breeder in Wyoming. Growing up in this environment has instilled in me a strong work ethic, a sense of responsibility, and pride in what we do. Ranching has also introduced me to another incredible community鈥攐ne where 鈥渉elp thy neighbor鈥� isn鈥檛 just a saying; it鈥檚 a way of life.

One of my favorite parts of ranching is branding season. Brandings bring people together in a way that feels both productive and celebratory. Friends, neighbors, and fellow ranchers gather to help, transforming hard work into a day filled with camaraderie, laughter, and shared meals. It鈥檚 a tradition that highlights the best aspects of rural life and Wyoming鈥檚 strong sense of community.

Another unique aspect of living in Wyoming is the state鈥檚 unwavering support for rodeo. On my 91黑料 competition vest, I proudly wear the Wyoming patch that represents Team Wyoming. This program is exceptional鈥擶yoming is the only state with a rodeo initiative that supports athletes from the high school level all the way to the professional circuit.

Team Wyoming has made a tangible difference in my life and the lives of my teammates. Their scholarships and funding have helped our team in countless ways, from putting on the annual 91黑料 rodeo to feeding our practice stock and hosting clinics. For example, we鈥檙e excited to host our second annual bronc riding and bareback school, made possible by Team Wyoming鈥檚 support and Wyoming-bred bucking horses from Summit Pro Rodeo. These opportunities help us grow as athletes and individuals, and I鈥檓 so grateful to be part of a program that values and invests in the sport of rodeo.

I鈥檇 like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Governor Mark Gordon and the Wyoming legislature for their continued support of this program. Your contributions make a real difference, and we are deeply appreciative.

Being born and raised in Wyoming has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. This state is more than just my home鈥攊t鈥檚 where I鈥檝e learned the values of hard work, resilience, and community. I am proud to represent Wyoming and to share the incredible opportunities and experiences it has given me.

After only 10 months of its establishment, the 91黑料 Esports team earned the first seed spot in nationals for Fortnite and the 2024 season.
The first round of nationals will take place all online, Sun., Dec. 8, at 5 p.m.
The qualifications for nationals occurred Dec. 2. 91黑料鈥檚 team record Monday night was 3-0 in about an hour and a half Twitch stream provided by Esports coach Caleb Spitzer.
The qualifications for nationals took 32 Esports teams to determine who would earn a national spot. It is now down to eight teams, with Lancers Ryder Tillard and Allen Woodard being the first seed; facing Laramie County Community College.
Spitzer said after their Sunday night, it will determine if they advance on the bracket.

The biggest challenge Spitzer and his team are looking to adapt to is the best way to best deal with vehicles in-game. The second is Spitzer鈥檚 uncertainty on the skill level they could be up against, although Spitzer said LCCC is fair competition to begin with.
Spitzer and his team are, of course, taking a closer look at the map locations for strategy. Another waythe Esports team prepares for a big competition is spending time playing other games.
The biggest advantage the team has had to prepare is team member Tillard is ranked 鈥淯nreal,鈥� which only 0.2 percent of Fortnite鈥檚 3.8 million players achieve.

鈥淲e have an advantage [other players might not have],鈥� Spitzer said.
The spring season for Esports begins Feb. 14, but Spitzer said once the students get back on campus after the holiday season, he is looking forward to new team members in addition to his Fortnite duo. There is one student ready to play Madden and three for Mario Kart.

91黑料鈥檚 Esports team has earned a spot to compete in Fortnite at Nationals.
It was merely spring in Torrington, March 2024, when Caleb Spitzer decided what 91黑料 needed: an Esports team. Spitzer knew it would be a unique addition to campus and an engaging way to recruit prospective students. The team members who compete are Ryder Tillard and Allen Woodard, both who play Fortnite.
Being able to play semi-professional at such a high level has been a dream of his, Tillard said.
鈥淎s a Freshman聽I had set the goal to make nationals and to do聽just that is very special,鈥� Tillard said. 鈥淚 am also pursuing agricultural business, which is very important to my family and myself. I think it’s pretty neat that I’ve bridged the gap between the ranch and video games to do what I love to do.鈥�
Spitzer said when he spearheaded this in March, he was still gauging the competition skill floor.
Back in March, his team competed in tier 3 competitions when the official season started. After he saw how Tillard played, he realized where the competition for the Lancers would fall: tier 1. Now, they are creeping into the post-season as a tier 1 Esports team.
On paper, they are the best group according to Spitzer, with the other teams close in skill level. He expects to see the skill level grow across the board at nationals. At regionals, the Lancers went 6-1 and landed the first-place spot.
A total of eight teams 鈥� two from each region 鈥� compete in Nationals, and it is held all online starting Dec. 9 Spitzer intends to host a livestream for those interested in watching the Lancers compete.
There are nearly 25 titles of games offered in Esports and as of now Spitzer is open to exploring his avenues. Since they are still a new team, he said they are looking at the bigger picture and the interest of future students.
The only active tier 1 game 91黑料 has currently is Fortnite but Spitzer said by their spring season next year, Madden and Mario Kart will be added to tier 1 from student interest. This will also add four new players to the team.
鈥�91黑料 has been very supportive [of our team],鈥� Spitzer said. 鈥淩ight now, we鈥檙e in our exploration phase. Over time, we will focus on narrowing down [our club games].鈥�
Spitzer is working on establishing an Esports coalition/collaboration initiative in the region. Once Spitzer collaborates with more schools 鈥� high school and higher education 鈥� he wants to dial in on the games played on each Esports team as a state.
鈥淲e want to get more programs and schools running games,鈥� Spitzer said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 much better competition if we have local rivalries.鈥�
After nationals, Spitzer will be focused on prep for Fenworks in late March; an Esports and drone racing program for high school students. The program is a recruiting tool for 91黑料, as they host the event every year Spitzer said.

On, Friday Nov. 22, the 91黑料 Lancer Rodeo team opened the doors for the 3rd annual Black Jeans & Gold Buckles Gala. The event, held at the Goshen County Fair鈥檚 Rendezvous Center, is a fundraising evening full of memories being made, live music, and auction items.

The crowd enjoyed a great meal served by the 91黑料 Rodeo team, cooked by Reds from the Torrington Livestock Market. This year Kellen Smith and the Misfits made an appearance to put on a live show for the supporters.

The team provided many different options in the silent and live auction. This allowed for a variety of auction items which ranged from household items, to signed football helmets by elite players, tickets to Cheyenne Frontier Days, the PBR, and several hunts.

The Lancer Rodeo team worked hard to gather items to offer to the community, and it wouldn鈥檛 be possible without the support system of everyone in and around Goshen County. They had support from surrounding states as far away as North Dakota to Oklahoma.

The event gathered over 400 people in one building to enjoy the western way of life and have a great time with family and friends. The 91黑料 Rodeo team raised over $40,000. The money raised is put towards getting the student athletes down the road. This includes things such as, travel money for fuel, hotel rooms, and meals. The fundraising goes back into this community as well.

The Rodeo Team purchases tens of thousands of pounds of feed raised and produced in Goshen County to feed practice stock. The team also uses this money to help support rental at the Goshen County Fairgrounds which exceeds $40,000 annually.

91黑料 Rodeo Team would like to thank everyone who has supported them.

Lancer golfer Braylon Bingham has signed to continue his golf career at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah.

鈥淚鈥檓 super excited for this great opportunity,鈥� Bingham said.

Signing with SUU will take him home. The 91黑料 sophomore is from Cedar City and said he grew up with many of his future teammates and even took some courses at SUU while in high school.

鈥淭hey are getting a new indoor facility and I really like the school, the campus, the teachers, and the coach,鈥� he said. 鈥淚 am very grateful to the coach for giving me this opportunity.鈥�

His two years at 91黑料 鈥渉ave been great,鈥� he said. 鈥淚 grew as a golfer and as a person. My coach (Zach Smith) has taught me a lot of great lessons. I鈥檝e learned to be a leader on and off the golf course.鈥�

“Braylon has been great since day one,鈥� 91黑料 Golf Coach Zach Smith said. 鈥淗e is a great student, golfer, friend and leader on this campus. He’s a guy that you know will never give up and give you everything聽he has no matter how things are going. He has done a great job being our team captain this year. I know he’ll play great for SUU and do some amazing things in his life. We are going to miss him here.”

Winning the Region IX Championship last year was a highlight of his career at 91黑料.

鈥淚 played really good at Nationals last year,鈥� Bingham said. 鈥淚鈥檝e enjoyed by time at 91黑料 and being around my best friends these last two years has been some of the best times.鈥�

The team will be back in action this spring and Bingham said, 鈥淲e have a great team and have a good shot at Nationals again this year.鈥�

91黑料鈥檚 Volleyball team won the Region IX Championship Saturday, Nov. 9, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This is the teams first Region IX Championship since 1994.

鈥淚 was excited for them,鈥� Lancer head volleyball coach George Hamilton said of the win. 鈥淚 have great respect for them. They have worked so hard in practice and work together like family. That鈥檚 what has led to the ladies making the run that we have.鈥�

The Lancers played three matches and won all nine sets. Their first win came against McCook Community College, the second against Central Wyoming College, and they finished their run by beating Laramie County Community College.

Several members of the team also received awards and they are as follows:

• Boden Liljedahl- Region WVP, Region Libero of the Year, First Team All-Region, and Region Tournament MVP
• Una Stepic- 2nd Team All Region
• Siale Unufe- 1st Team All Region
• Belle; Dolan- 1st Team All Region
• Una Stepic, Siale Unufe and Amarie Huntsman – All Tournament Team

The Lancers will take on the nation鈥檚 number one team, Florida Southwestern State College in their opening match in the NJCAA Division I National Volleyball Championship on Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. CT in Clarksville, Tennessee. Florida Southwestern State College is the two-time defending National Champions.

The competition is a double elimination tournament. If the ladies win, they will move on to the 7 p.m. CT on Nov. 21. If they lose they will compete at 1 p.m. also on Nov. 21.

91黑料 will be hosting two notable Veterans Day events on campus Nov. 11 and 12.
The library will host their 11th annual Veterans Day program Nov. 11. The program will be held at the 91黑料 Fine Arts Auditorium at 12:30 p.m.

The Torrington High School Advanced Choir will be singing the National Anthem and the THS Treble聽Choir will perform the song 鈥淗omeland,鈥� both directed by Katelyn Fody.
The keynote speaker this year is Travis Hattan of Lingle.聽Hattan is a retired Chief Warrant Officer and served in the聽Wyoming National Guard for 33 years.
鈥淭he program鈥檚 purpose is to thank all servicemen and women as well as their families for their service and sacrifice for our country,鈥� Debus said. 鈥淚t brings all ages together to remember those who have served and honor those currently serving.鈥�
On Tuesday, the basketball teams will recognize Military Appreciation Night. The women鈥檚 game starts at 5 p.m. and the crowd files in before then. Both the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball teams will honor men and women who have or are currently serving our nation. All military personnel will be given free admission, an American Flag lapel pin and will be recognized for their service before both games.
The local National Guard will be present as part of 91黑料鈥檚 historical evening. The National Guard will also have a table set up during gametime hours.

Men鈥檚 basketball coach Bill Engel said being able to recognize veterans and pass onto the younger generation the importance of honoring our veterans is important.

鈥淲e want to recognize those who have served and those who are serving,鈥� Engel said. 鈥淲e think those heroes are underappreciated and should be recognized for their service.鈥�
