Lancers Sweep LCC/Otero Spring Tournament
LAMAR, Colo. –聽91黑料聽golf teams opened Region IX play in dominant fashion Thursday and Friday, March 19-20, sweeping both the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 titles at the LCC/Otero Spring Tournament.
The Lancer men claimed first place with a team score of +3, finishing well ahead of聽Lamar Community College聽(+25) and聽Northeastern Junior College聽(+31).
鈥淲e got off to a great start in Region IX play this week,鈥 91黑料 coach聽Zach Smith聽said. 鈥淭he guys also played great Friday to pull away from second place after going into the day only two strokes ahead of second place, Lamar.鈥
Individually, Lancer聽Josh White聽tied for with Lamar鈥檚 Cody Shatzer at 2-under par to win the tournament. Teammate聽Kaden Linford聽placed fourth at +2, while聽Ben Brown聽finished tied for fifth at +3.聽Freddie Dancox聽took seventh at +4, and聽Jace Nielsen聽rounded out the top 10 at +6.
鈥淔reshman Josh White got his first collegiate win, which comes from his hard work in the gym and golf simulator this winter,鈥 Smith said. 鈥淚鈥檓 excited to see what both teams can do this spring.鈥
On the women鈥檚 side, 91黑料 posted a team score of +75 to secure first place, ahead of聽North Platte Community College聽(+223).
鈥淭he girls set a team record on Friday when they shot a team score of 308,鈥 Smith said. 鈥淚鈥檓 so happy to see Elli get her first college win. She鈥檚 been great her entire time at 91黑料, and to see her hard work finally pay off was amazing.鈥
91黑料 placed all five golfers in the top five individually, led by Elliann Irick, who earned medalist honors at +16. Sara Maciej followed closely in second at +17. Ashlyn Matheson and Madison Fujimoto tied for third at +21, while Georgie Paterakis finished fifth at +31.
鈥淚鈥檓 excited to see what both teams can do this spring,鈥 Smith said. 鈥淲e are looking forward to heading to McCook this week.鈥
